HP Mini 311-1000NR Review

Design and Hardware

If you've ever wished that your netbook had just a little more multimedia power, you're not alone. While most consumers will openly claim that they just want their small and efficient netbook for the purposes of surfing the web and e-mail...there's another need just below the surface. This need pushes us toward more power, better speed, and the ability to throw in a video game sometimes and...well actually be able to play it.

Enter the HP Mini 311

The HP Mini 311 is a unique blend of size and power, and with the first ever nVidia Ion-based portable running the graphics show, there's a lot to love. It weighs in at about 3.22 pounds, and measures 11.4 by 8.0 by 1.2 inch. Even with these impressive specs, the HP Mini 311 will run you about $399. A small price to pay for the ability to load up Left 4 Dead, eh?

Wait...what's an Ion?

The Ion platform manages to blend an Intel Atom CPU with an nVidia Ion LE GPU. What this means to you is that your netbook will be more powerful than ever before, and sport the capability to play high definition videos and moderately sized games. It'll also be backed up by 1GB of RAM and a 160HB HD.

Still Under Testing

The 311 certainly sounds like all that and a bag of chips, but don't expect to load up Dawn of War 2 (or can you?) on high resolution just yet. The jury on HP's latest powerhouse netbook is still out, and rest assured just about every tech site out there is looking to put it to the test. We'll have a more extensive cover of what the HP Mini 311 can do soon enough, so keep an eye out!
